The Acura RDX has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The V90 Cross Country doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Both the RDX and the V90 Cross Country have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

Acura’s powertrain warranty covers the RDX 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the V90 Cross Country. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the V90 Cross Country ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the RDX’s reliability 31 points higher than the V90 Cross Country.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the RDX first among compact premium suvs in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The V90 Cross Country isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Acura vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. With 60 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Acura higher than Volvo.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Acura vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Acura 10 places higher in reliability than Volvo.

As tested in Motor Trend the Acura RDX is faster than the Volvo V90 Cross Country:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Acura RDX uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The V90 Cross Country requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The RDX has 1.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the V90 Cross Country (17.1 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Acura RDX, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the V90 Cross Country.

The RDX stops much shorter than the V90 Cross Country:

For better traction, the RDX A-Spec’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the V90 Cross Country (255/45R20 vs. 245/45R20).

The RDX has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The V90 Cross Country doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The front and rear suspension of the RDX uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the V90 Cross Country, which uses transverse leafs springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

For greater off-road capability the RDX has a greater minimum ground clearance than the V90 Cross Country (8.2 vs. 7.9 inches), allowing the RDX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Acura RDX may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 300 pounds less than the Volvo V90 Cross Country.

The RDX is 7.8 inches shorter than the V90 Cross Country, making the RDX easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The RDX uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The V90 Cross Country doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The RDX has 6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the V90 Cross Country (104 vs. 98).

The RDX has 1.8 inches more front headroom, 2.2 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear headroom, 2.5 inches more rear legroom and .7 inches more rear shoulder room than the V90 Cross Country.

The RDX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the V90 Cross Country with its rear seat up (31.1 vs. 19.5 cubic feet). The RDX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the V90 Cross Country with its rear seat folded (79.8 vs. 69 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the RDX’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The V90 Cross Country doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Acura service is better than Volvo. J.D. Power ranks Acura 6th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 25% lower rating, Volvo is ranked 23rd.

The RDX’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The V90 Cross Country doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The RDX’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the V90 Cross Country’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the RDX has standard extendable sun visors. The V90 Cross Country doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The RDX is equipped with both FM and AM stereo radios, offering access to more content and better coverage than the V90 Cross Country, which solely provides FM radio. With AM radio, you can enjoy a wider variety of stations featuring news, talk shows, sports commentary, native language programing, automated traffic guidance, and emergency broadcasts. Cars like the RDX equipped with HD Radio provide an improved in-car entertainment experience. The V90 Cross Country, devoid of this technology, foregoes these benefits.
